"Violence leads to violence. We know, that in a person who has experienced violence the fear center of the brain becomes more sensitive. This puts the person at a higher risk to experience fear or aggression", reports neurobiologist Joachim Bauer the results of recent brain research. Studies on 500 victims of abuse and violence in church institutions confirm this – the victims turn violent way more frequently than average.
"What we got to know within these walls that was just brutal violence, also within the group among the children. We were brutal ourselves, we were pigs. We passed that on", says Franz Joseph Stangl, former pupil of a church institution. In this documentary, Kurt Langbein ventures on taking a journey through brutal, yet important parts of our history.
