The documentation "The Donated Day" follows six people who engage in volunteer work – from palliative care, aid to refugees, treating patients without insurance and aid for the homeless to supporting socially disadvantaged children.

Elisabeth Benesch is retired. For over 13 years now she has been volunteering at a palliative care unit; she dedicates her time to people who themselves have very little time left. "The experiences I have volunteering here are a treasure of life that cannot be taken away from me", she says.

The 42-year-old banker Petra Rauscher leaves her work early once every week – to tutor underprivileged children at the Wiener Lerntafel, a platform for free learning support.

And pediatrician Dr. Rudolf Schmitzberger treats patients who do not have insurance for free.

He knows what coming to Austria as a foreigner is like: the Egyptian-born Fady Fouad wants to spend his first day off helping unaccompanied refugee kids – together with aid workers from the private refugee relief organisation "Grazer Spendenkonvoi": "People have to help each other. The work here is not for nothing. It is for the future."
