For half a year the director and cinematographer Florian Gebauer followed the ballet master Manuel Legris and his young dancers during their rehearsals and shows.
The result is an exciting and moving portrait of the world of ballet. Prisca Zeisel has just turned 18 but is already a demi-soloist; in "The Nutcracker" she dances as one of the solo snowflakes. The young girls ambition feels almost contagious, she wants to become a soloist as soon as possible – just like Ludmilla Konovalova and her dancing partner Vladimir Shishov, who are dancing the main parts. While Vladimir and his girlfriend like to cook, Prisca watches ballet videos in her free time and Ludmilla likes to go brunching – rather unusual for a dancer. Apart from that the dancers are constantly at ballet practice or on stage and practically fall dead-tired into their beds at night.
The film shows a world of long rehearsals and pain, that the dancers willingly put up with when they are rewarded with success.
