You Belong to Me – Violence Against Women
A film by Florian Gebauer & Edith Stohl
TV documentary -
completed

Worldwide over a third of women are victims of rape, sexual assault  and other violent acts. Women who experience violence often feel ashamed and do not realize that they are victims but look for guilt within themselves. This makes violence against women a taboo topic – even today.

The film shows how violence starts and how it escalates and how women can be stuck in abusive and dependent relationships for years. The stories of the victims are told as well as the perspectives of the perpetrators, who were often victims of violence themselves in their childhood. "You Belong to Me" scrutinizes the hidden causes of structural and physical violence and the role our social and legal systems play. The film shows that the vicious cycle of violence can be broken.
