The Hygiene-Delusion and its consequences
A film by Andrea Eder

There is hardly a household today without disinfectants and bactericidal cleaners that are supposed to destroy pathogenic germs. Every four-person household consumes 64 kilograms of detergents per year.
And more and more of them promise, if not all, to kill 99.9 percent of the microorganisms.

But the substances used are dangerous in uncontrolled use. Disinfectants damage the microbiome of the skin and stoke antibiotic resistance and allergies. Scientists have already shown that both microplastics and nanosilver can accumulate in the organism. The resulting health consequences are not yet estimable.

And the environment also suffers from the ever increasing consumption of potent household cleaners. The sewage treatment plants can not remove all microparticles and so the substances used in the supposedly
thorough hygiene land on the plates of the consumers via detours. In the form of fish.

The film shows with scientists and hygiene experts, how much hygiene makes sense and which cleaning measures in which environment are really effective.
